Collaboration. A wildly used skill yet a skill so underrated. The ability to move ideas from one human to the next hoping that the conclusion will be the desired outcome. Yet why do we struggle so hard to get that mutual desired outcome? What factors are involved when two or more personalities are brought together to make an idea a reality?
So far, in ESOC 211, I have learned the basics of what it means to collaborate. Through multiple articles we have discussed I have become aware of how intricate it is to analyze such a process, and how two people with the same idea can also have such conflicting desired outcomes. In the article What is Collaboration Anyway, the idea is that people are brought together by something but somehow may form, or have, many different desired outcomes or reasoning, etc etc. Collaboration can be complicated without the right communication as several factors may influence a single idea.
When discussing something within a group of people, a single topic can bring a completely different opinion from person to person. Social Network Next-door is an example of how to determine what people would consider "racial profiling." There is no universal definition you can expect that there will be a varying thoughts of each opinion. While several people may find it racist you can find equally as many people who contradict their statements and see it otherwise.
When pondering how it is possible that anyone achieves a mutually desired outcome the article Collective Intelligence comes to mind. Communication, physical and in the cyber-world, is ever-changing and evolving with the fast pace of our society. Whether it's discussing in person or online, there is a clear way to send information back and forth and succeed, in fact it is even beneficial to both parties. When collaborating, you hope that in the flurry of information being passed back and forth that everything is being received and perceived in a way that makes sense. Levy wrote, "No one know's everything, everyone knows something, all knowledge resides in humanity." We can only know what we know until someone tells us otherwise or we choose to perceive information a certain way. Intelligence requires independent thinking.
All three articles include information given to help achieve successful collaboration. When there are many different backgrounds, cultures, and factors brought into a single group there is a collective way of organizing thoughts to ultimately achieve success.
than one repercussion.
